The Nerdlist

Remember the resource breakdown analysis I shared with you all in a previous midweek labnote? In it, we discussed three key resources--time, money and energy and how to assess them.

This week, I've been investigating The Invisibility Tax and what it looks like when these resources are unfairly taxed. More specifically, I've been looking at the resource of time.

When you're underrecognized, it can take more time (and effort, and everything else) to get to the same places those peers who are recognized by default get to. That basically amounts to time theft.

It's why the idea of "time anxiety" caught my eye.

Happy Juneteenth fellow nerds!
This week, we're talking The New Economics of Attention.
And no worries, I'm not pulling you in to do math. I'll be breaking down how attention actually works. So you know what it is you're up against and can start strategizing with that in mind. This actually comes from a Visibility Clinic I taught last year. But this is the first time I'm making any part of that clinic available to non attendees, let alone the actual topic briefing.

Hello fellow nerds!
This week’s Labnote unpacks why engagement feels so hard right now—and what’s actually happening beneath the surface when people opt out. From the neurological impacts of instability and discrimination to the limits of message-based influence, it’s a look at the real barriers to participation.

If you’re trying to galvanize action in environments marked by distrust, depletion, or disconnection—grab a cool iced tea and join me.

The Resources I promised!
  1. Why your stable revenue just dropped off a cliff
  2. Economic instability and the brain paper
  3. Racial Discrimination and the Brain
  4. A paper on interpersonal influence that I'm still working through and processing.

Hello fellow nerds!
This week's Labnote is all about the mechanics of polarization. It's a breakdown of how and why it happens--among other things! If you’re trying to shift behavior in polarized ecosystems—or even just understand why some ideas spread like wildfire while others stall—this one’s worth your time.

Here's the article I promised that talks about the adoption thresholds

And the book by my friend Elizabeth Weingarten: How to Fall in Love with Questions: A new way to thrive in times of uncertainty.
